Association of State Floodplain Managers sponsored this handbook. The information in this
publication demonstrates the application of mitigation strategies for the management of natural
hazards occurring along the nation's coasts.
This publication resulted from the cooperation of many people, several of whom
provided case study examples and intense reviews. The initial drafts were developed by Mr.
Mark Mauriello, Co-chair, ASFPM Coastal Issues Committee and Ms. Pam Pogue, Chair,
Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM).
